Cross Handprint Craft

Materials:
- Simple cross template (provided)
- Yellow washable paint (or color of your choice)
- Paintbrush or sponge
- Plain paper (for practice)
- Picture frame (optional for gifting)
Instructions:
-
Preparation:
- Protect your crafting surface with newspapers or a plastic sheet.
- Print out the simple cross template.
- Pour the yellow washable paint into a shallow dish for easy access.
-
Practice Run:
- It might be beneficial to do a test run on plain paper to help your child get accustomed to the hand positioning.
-
Creating the Handprints:
- Use the paintbrush or sponge to apply a thin layer of paint to one of your child’s hands, ensuring full coverage of the palm and fingers.
- Position the painted hand at the bottom of the cross template, with the fingers pointing upwards and the palm facing towards the bottom of the page, and press down to create the first half of the sunrise.
- Clean the first hand, then repeat the process with the second hand, positioning it opposite to the first handprint so the palms face each other and the fingers extend upwards, creating the appearance of sun rays emanating from behind the cross.
- Press down gently but firmly to ensure a clear handprint, then carefully lift the hand to avoid smudging.
-
Drying:
- Set the artwork aside to dry thoroughly. Drying times may vary based on the thickness of the paint and the type of paper.
-
Framing (Optional):
- Once the handprints are completely dry, you can frame this meaningful piece of art. It makes a beautiful keepsake or a heartfelt gift, especially suitable for grandparents.
This Easter Sunrise Cross Handprint Craft offers a poignant and creative way for children to engage with the Easter story, symbolizing hope and renewal through the imagery of the sun rising behind the cross. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to come together in creativity and reflection.
