Jesus Heals the Man with Leprosy

Introduction:
This lesson will help reinforce that Jesus was more than just a man. He could heal and cleanse the man with leprosy and can heal and make us clean on the inside now. God loves us no matter what we look like or what we've done we just need to humble ourselves, ask and believe and He will change us for the better.
The message:
Preschool thru Grade 1: God is trying to reach out and show
you His love. Can you see it?
Grades 2 and 3: God wants to reach out and touch your life. Will you let
him?
I've split this message into two separate ones depending on the age level. For the younger children, the message is simple: God is trying to reach out and show us His love. Encourage the children to think of ways God show His love for them in the little things of life (through nature, kindness of others or parents). For the older children, we expand on this message and say that God wants to reach out and touch their life. Will they receive God and listen to what he wants to do through them?
Make sure you repeat the message many times during the lesson. Send the Jesus Heals the Man with Leprosy Take Home Sheet home with the children to encourage parents to reiterate the message during the week. It includes a poster at the bottom that the children can color and hang on their wall or refrigerator.

Some people like to do craft time first and story time second and some like to switch it around. I like the first option, myself.
Always consider offering Jesus Coloring Pages for children who aren't interested in participating in the group activity (or if you get done the group activities very quickly and need something to fill in the spare time). Everyone has a need for "alone time" once in awhile. Also, sending home the coloring pages with the Take Home sheet provides parents with much needed help in reinforcing the lessons. You can make a nice little booklet each week with the take home sheet on top -- I promise that most parents will appreciate the effort!

| Welcome! Receive name tags. Have the children use crayons, markers, yarn, feathers and whatever other materials (such as sparkle glue) that you have available to personalize their name tag. Sing the Learning our Names song |

Craft time!All ages: Make the First Aid Craft. For younger children get them to draw items they would need in a first aid kit. Talk about what they would need and why. Talk about areas in their life that they need healing (areas they're worried or need help from God with). Encourage them to find verses in the Bible that talk about these areas and how God can help make them feel better. For the older children encourage them to make a real First Aid Kit with
their family and to write out five verses that they need healing or help from God.

Bible Story:Preschool thru Grade 1: Read The Story of the Healing of the Leper (or read from your own store bought children's bible). Grades 2 and 3: It's tough to know when it's the right time to start readings from the Bible, but if the children have been read a children's version of the story in the past, I believe this is a good age to introduce the King James (or your preferred) bible reading. |

Closing:Preschool thru Grade 1: depending on the time remaining ask the children how God can show His love to them? What are ways they feel loved? Explain that God loves them so much and He also wants to help them and feel loved. Grade 2 and 3: depending on the time remaining allow the children to discuss ways God demonstrated His love to them. Are they looking for God in their everyday activities? Will they bow before God like the man with leprosy and accept Christ's love and cleansing for themselves? Standard ending song: for example We love to learn together, substitute "learn" for sing, pray, etc (to the tune of The More We Get Together) |
